Ribs & Burgers

Sometimes I hanker after a no frills cheeseburger and fries.  I don't want the brioche bun, I want more fries than I can possibly eat and sometimes (very rarely) I just feel like a glass of water to wash it all down.  I think I've found the place.

Nestled in what is quite an odd location, Northcote Plaza, is Ribs & Burgers.  They offer platters of melt-in-your-mouth ribs (well, they looked it!), the obligatory sides of coleslaw and fries and a huge selection of burgers.  You order and pay at the counter and get given a tea-pot with your table number containing cutlery and their pink and BBQ sauces.

On our visit we had the Original (burger) with American cheese (a sweet cheddar), the Original with Swiss cheese and a medium serving of chips.

The burgers arrived on cute tin plates covered with a Ribs & Burgers branded sheet of wax paper.  They smelt like Big Macs, which to me is a very good sign!  When I say a "no frills" burger I certainly do not mean the quality of the ingredients used is skimped on, I just mean a burger which contains smoky, medium beef, a decent helping of salad (red onion is a great addition), oozy cheese and a plain bun.  This burger was all those things and more.   My only gripe is that the bun could have been a wee bit warmer.

And the fries:

Hot, crispy, potato which was covered in an addictive seasoning.  These were crack chips.  AMAZING.  And a massive serving which was far more than we could finish for only $6.  I'll be back for more of everything and cannot wait to try the ribs.

Good to know:

The Original burger $10 plus cheese $2 (choose from Swiss, American or saucy blue)
Medium chips $6
