The Local Burger Co.

My eyes are always peeled for new burger joints.  What can I say, we love a good burger and fries.  The Local Burger Co. recently opened up shop in Carlton and what better time to visit than after a movie at the Nova on the weekend.  We arrived at around 7:00pm which was the right time as not long after every table was chockablock.

The space is quite small but nicely kitted out- I loved the chalk drawing of the burger on the back wall.  We grabbed a seat along the window so we could people watch whilst eating (such a good pastime).  The menu is short but well formed offering seven burgers including two vegetarian options, two choices of sandwiches and potato or sweet potato fries.

We decided to keep it simple.  A large fries, a Classic Beef Burger for me and an Old School Cheese Burger for TBS.

My Classic Beef Burger arrived with a knife speared through its centre and accompanied by a small mesclun side salad.  The bun was soft and bread-roll-like, the patty well seasoned and cooked medium-rare.  I enjoyed it more and more as I continued to eat and when finished whilst I was full I didn't feel uncomfortably stuffed.  The flavours were really clean and not greasy and cloying.

TBS enjoyed his Old School Cheese Burger and like mine, the patty was cooked really well. He did comment that the addition of mayo or mustard might elevate the burger from being good to being great as the flavours were a tiny bit predictable.

The fries were top notch- well drained, crunchy, hot and french!  I noticed that there were some tables receiving thicker chip-style fries but I'm glad we got given french.  I sure hope that these weren't just a once off.

The next time I'm in Carlton and am hanging out for a burger I will be heading to The Local Burger Co.  It's great value for money, the staff are friendly and the ingredients are fresh and full of flavour. I wish The Local Burger Co was my local!

Good to know:
